Green-Blue Summit:

| Introduction |
Are you interested in the connections between residential pest management, nutrients, and water quality?
Then plan to attend the "Green-Blue Summit" on July 18-19, 2007. This event will focus on integrated pest management (IPM) and nutrient management in turf and structural settings. Participants will identify specific areas of concern, help develop strategic plans for addressing IPM needs, and create core messages for consumer outreach and education.Registration is available at the door.

See the AGENDAPlenary sessions will be followed by concurrent workshops on turf and structural pest management issues, as well as an evening social at the internationally renowned Longwood Gardens including transportation from the conference site, admission to the gardens, and a social event with barbecue and beverages (a $50 value). See more information below. Participants will find many opportunities to network with individuals of diverse affiliations who share concerns about water quality and the management of pests in residential settings.

• Ecological approach to landscaping at the water's edge (Jeff Schloss, Univ. of New Hampshire)
• Learning from the audience: Social science research and social marketing (Brian Eisenhauer, Plymouth State University)
• IPM–water quality success story (Geoff Brosseau, Bay Area Storm Water Management Agencies Association)
• Marketing techniques: Thinking outside of the box (Joe Hice, Univ. of Florida)Turf workshops will focus on the water quality impacts of urban horticulture, including:
• benefits of turf
• homeowner fertilizer and pesticide application practices
• measuring absorption versus runoff
• obtaining good data and using models
Participants will identify areas of agreement, disagreement, and potential compromise, and will work together to create simple messages for educating the public and changing behavior.Structural workshops will be highly interactive, focusing on the relatively unexplored connections between structural pest management and water quality. Topics will include:
• impact of residential pesticides on wildlife
• residential pesticide residues in water
• homeowner attitudes about pest management
Participants will identify and prioritize research and outreach needs, and will initiate and strengthen coalitions for moving forward.
| Who Should Attend? |
The Green-Blue Summit will attract decision-makers interested in the connections between water quality and the management of pests in residential settings, as well as those who can make an impact by sharing key messages with the public. Participants will include municipal and community leaders, consultants, and those affiliated with Extension organizations, federal and state agencies, municipal water authorities, landscape and turf care service companies, structural pest management companies, nongovernmental organizations, universities, and lawn and home care product manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.

LONGWOOD TRAVEL INFORMATION
A dinner and evening social at the internationally renowned Longwood Gardens on July 18th is included in your registration (for summit registrants and their registered guests, who registered by June 29th). Longwood Gardens is approximately 18 miles from the Conference Center.
We have arranged for buses to shuttle people to and from Longwood Gardens
Bus 1 will leave from the Conference Center at 5:45 and then to the Inn at Chester Springs at ~ 5:55.
Bus 2 will leave from the Holiday Inn Express at 5:45 and then the Desmond at ~5:55If you are driving, either see directions to Longwood Gardens or we've compiled several maps of the area. See maps (PDF). Please use the business entrance (off Conservatory Road). Longwood Gardens are just north of the Longwood Cemetary which is indicated on the map.
